Digital Badge

Through this assignment I created a digital badge that students can earn if they successfully (100% accuracy) complete all operations with rational numbers assessments. There are 4 assessments adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers. Students must score a 100% on each assessment to be awarded the “Rational Number Master Badge”.

I created a digital badge on Accedible.com and uploaded it ot badgr.com which allows me to issue badges to students.

Badge Criteria

Criteria: For this badge students must master 10 problems from the each of the concepts of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers to receive the “Rational Number Master Badge”.

Users: Created for 6th grade Honors Mathematics students at WPMS.

Skills and Knowledge: The badge represents mastery (scoring a 100%) on each operation with rational numbers.  The operations are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers.  Each assessment will be taken on Edulastic during OT time before lunch (30-minute period).  Students will receive immediate feedback after completion of assignment on Edulastic.  Once all operations have been mastered the badge will be awarded to the student.

Behaviors: This badge should encourage students to become fluent with operations with rational numbers.  Students build on the concepts of rational numbers all year long and with this badge students will become more competent with rational numbers resulting in better scores.  Without incentive I believe students would not be motivated to try their hardest to succeed and become competent with this content which will be referred to all year.

Evidence: Evidence that students have mastered these concepts will be store in Edulastic data base.  Students have access to their scores and can always look at and review the problems they got incorrect.

Value Proposition: Competition will be created with this badge.  Friendly competition that is.  Students will become eager to compete against each other to see who can earn the badge the quickest.

Endorsers:   I will be the only endorser.  I currently teach all 6th grade Honors courses at WPMS.  I will bring this up at the next staff meeting to share with staff members and see if they want to incorporate it in their classes as well or maybe even school wide.

Channels:  Students will learn of this badge through my class and Remind 101 messages sent to parents for reminders.

Award:  Once students have mastered (100% accuracy) each concept (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational numbers) they will be awarded their badge.  I will be utilizing email to share badges with students.  I will issue badges on Fridays. Each Friday students will check their emails first when they enter class to see if they earned a badge.

Learning Pathways:  Badge is based on students’ performance on operations with rational numbers (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers).  Students must receive a 100% mastery on each assessment.  Other badges will be created to reward students for another task.

Resources:  I used Accredible.com to create the badge and Badgr to upload, collect, and issue badge to students.
