Part 5 "Require Learner Participation"

Students were involved in a variety of activities that centered around knowledge of the coordinate plane (6.NS.8).  Students were grouped based on MAP testing data (highs, lows, mediums grouped together).

Mental Engagement: Rigor can clearly be seen throughout the activities.  Edpuzzle and Khan Academy, which are technological tools, challenges students to be the driver in their education.  With these resources’ students must watch video instruction, take notes, and answer comprehension questions throughout the video or after.  The rotations allow students to be grouped in smaller groups.

Practice of New Knowledge/Skill: Even though the assignments have a great deal of rigor they offer students multiple opportunities to practice.  Each redo would yield different questions form the same standard.  With this, students can receive immediate feedback.  As the teacher observes rotations he can see if further intervention is needed.

Learning Supported through Media/Technology:  The use of various platforms is vital to exposing students to different types of learning.  Each student is given a Chromebook that they carry through out the school day to all classes.  This is vital for the success of our blended learning model.  These Chromebooks allow for easy use of Edpuzzle, GeoGebra, and Khan Academy.

Instructor Feedback: Feedback was given electronically and face to face.  Students received praise verbally and electronically.  Immediate feedback is vital because it gives students real time information about their learning.
